Ironic

One song I used to play and sing all of the time and drove my siblings crazy was Alanis Morissette's "Ironic." (Wonder if they remember Jo Dee Messina's Carolina? HA), Anyway, I liked the beat, the artist, and the lyrics. But as I got older and even now, I wonder what made Alanis name the song Ironic? Being a songwriter myself.. well Im getting there. :) When I think of irony, I think of a situation like a lady hides an outfit on another rack way in the back of a store (so no one else can get it), only for the same thing to happen to her, or that the outfit is still taken. That's just one example, I guess.

Even Webster, yes I talked to him!! He defines irony as:a pretense of ignorance and of willingness to learn from another assumed in order to make the other's false conceptions conspicuous by adroit questioning. Another way of looking at irony isthe use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning or a usually humorous or sardonic literary style or form characterized by irony.

Ok with those definitions I'm thinking are the things my girl Alanis is describing IRONIC? or MADDENING? Check out some of her lyrics: A 98 year old man wins the lottery but dies the next day. hmm? Ironic really? What about getting a death row pardon 2 mins too late? Do YOU find that IRONIC or cold-blooded? hmm (let me chink about it..)Of course I meant chink about it!! LOL :) Oh oh oh how about it raining on your wedding day?? I'd like to find a bride that this happened to, to tell me her thoughts on THIS one. Maybe I will share 2 more..

This one I got a photograpic picture of and ironic was not the thought I got: it's like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife(HA! Can u see some starving creature LAUGHING at this?!! NOT!) You are more inclined to hear a growl (urrrrrgh :-{...   AHA and lastly, meeting the man of your dreams, and THEN meeting his beautiful WIFE.(Embarrassed much?!? or even frustrated?)

Now don't get me wrong. I still love this song. At times I can still laugh about the song, which is probably why Alanis finds these occurrences "ironic" because at some point in time they are comical. You know,  I remember saying when I was younger that I didnt want to do or say some things my mom said to me.. You want IRONY?... I have to stop, laugh, and shake my head when I hear myself say the EXACT things she did and probably with the SAME attitude. HA! LOL!! Has that happened to you?

Well I'm off to see what other "Ironic" things happen to me for the day. Feel free to listen to and read Alanis' "Ironic" below.

An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
It's a black fly in your Chardonnay
It's a death row pardon two minutes too late
Isn't it ironic ... don't you think
Chorus

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought ... it figures

Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids good-bye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
'Well isn't this nice...'
And isn't it ironic ... don't you think
Repeat Chorus

Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
When you think everything's okay and everything's going right
And life has a funny way of helping you out when
You think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up
In your face
It's a traffic jam when you're already late
It's a no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It's meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn't it ironic... don't you think
A little too ironic... and yeah I really do think...
Repeat Chorus
Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out
Helping you out

What's with THE one?!

Ok, so this is what I hear and may have said from time to time: "girl Im waiting for THE one." "Yea man she aight, but I don't think she's THE one." Actually one of my Facebook statuses said "Everybody talking about this being "boo season," yea I feel you. Im just wanting one boo for ALL seasons and reasons more. Temporary fixes are just that..temporary" SO what is it with this THE one business?

Don't get me wrong, Im all for marriage and everything that comes with it, but I was reminded today that we as women aren't even supposed to be looking. (Can somebody say SATDOWN ladies? lol) When I read this statement, I was dumbfounded, shocked, and even more attracted to this unknown person with a well full of wisdom (Big Sigh- I digress! :) ) Anywho, the proverbial light bulb came on. We are focusing on the wrong "THE ONE." I mean really who wants someone that is trippin over themselves, just to feel that warm and fuzzy feeling inside. OR how do u feel when someone is always popping up in your presence. We have our nice moments and appease them for a minute, but lets face it in our heads some are saying "ugh you AGAIN :-/ I, even I, yes, ME have to take a deep breath when my favorite, lovable pets come running demanding my attention. Is that what we do when we are intrigued by someone? Think about it.

Now after saying ALL of that(did it make sense? Huh?) I'm thinking maybe just maybe we could focus less on THE one(guy/girl) that we hope with all our hearts will become our husband or wife, and notice the OTHER ones. For instance, finishing school, a poem or picture you started, NOT going off on someone annoying, or perhaps finding an outfit WITHOUT anyone's help(that's me!) maybe even a great conversation with a good friend, or seeing your growth as a person. For me, starting this blog is one of my OTHER ones.

I believe seeing  ALL the LITTLE things(ones) that happen in your life gives you more to talk about and will help you appreciate THE one so much more. As suggested by a friend of mine: Look at what you're looking at.

Be easy :)
